An Intern Made Me Cry...
I also thought I was the next Elon Musk...
One Big (Loyal) Thing
For those that know me well, the Morning Blitz was my entire identity. It was anything and everything I cared about for over 5 years.
The first ever blog post I wrote was about my experience building the Blitz, a daily sports newsletter that turned into a fun social media brand as well.
But it wasn’t just me grinding it out.
It was a shared journey with a bunch of Grade A savages that helped make that project come to life and actually turn into a legitimate, recognizable sports media brand.
So, who were these psychopath savages?

THE INTERNS! Plus, shoutout my co-founder Noah Cartwright top left, the biggest savage of them all.
There are about 12 more people that should be on this Zoom but it’s the only picture of our “Tequila Tuesday” meetings I could find, you know who you are.
These guys were the ENGINE that made the Blitz go.
Whether it was writing the newsletter at 2am ET after the Dodgers hit a walk-off HR in the 17th inning and it needed to be in the recap, or coming up with fun social content or fixing the 78 grammar errors I had in the newsletter every night, they did it all.
There is no Blitz without the Blitzer interns.
When I left TorchPro and joined Shadow Lion 18 months ago, I unfortunately couldn’t come to a deal with my former team at Torch to keep the Blitz brand in my possession.
But the Blitz Fam still runs DEEP.
I got a text from one the Day 1 OG interns Chase Lee (middle of Zoom rocking Ocho Cinco jersey) saying he was in Boston and wanted to meet up. Immediate YES.
Chase is fully responsible for the very first brand deal that the Blitz ever had. He sent a cold email to Legends, an athleisure brand I still rock today, and BOOM couple sales calls later we got a $1,000 check to run some ads.
I thought I was rich and there was no way I wasn’t going to be the next Elon Musk.
Hey, dream isn’t over yet, just a little off pace at the moment.
So yes, I met Chase for a little dinner. We ripped the North End for an Italian meal, what any normal Bostonian would do for a visiting friend.
But first, let me take a selfie…

We only “hired” handsome interns, as you can see
Of course, our topic at dinner was reminiscing about the Blitz glory days and how much fun it all was.
Then I learned this legend removed the Morning Blitz sign-up link from his IG bio the day I left the Blitz and replaced it with my fricken’ Danny’s Diary link to this stupid blog. Had no idea until he told me at dinner.

I guess the Ocho Cinco jersey on Zoom makes more sense with the “85 is gonna be open” caption in the bio 😂😂
This actually really touched me.
I weep pretty easily, but Chase doesn’t know on my walk home that night while I was slamming Morgan Wallen’s new banger of an album in my Airpods that I teared up a little bit.
You CANNOT buy loyalty.
You have to EARN someone’s trust.
Apparently the three years working with the Blitz where Chase didn’t earn a single dime for compensation because we didn’t have any money to give out, I earned his loyalty.
There’s no BS way around earning someone’s respect. You need to put in the work, go through some s**t together.
Get in the foxhole with each other and play as a team. If that team can bond together off a shared vision like we had at the Blitz, you can build something special.
I am so fricken’ proud of what WE built at the Blitz. Did it turn us into Elon Musk and the PayPal Mafia? No.
But I’ve got a fun story to tell, with a million lessons learned and brothers for life, like my man Chase.
After graduating from Michigan, Chase went onto work for NASCAR, the Big Ten Network, and is now absolutely crushing it working for his family business. Fired up to see the young buck dominating life. Even his Detroit Tigers are playing good baseball, good for you!
Find you people in your life like Chase.
And if you don’t think you have that at the moment, remember, trust and loyalty is EARNED and there is still time to go develop a core squad.
