Are you smarter than a 1-year-old?
Good luck...
What do Scottie Scheffler and my 1-year-old niece have in common?
More than you'd think…
One Big (Baby) Thing
Going off last week’s theme of “flushing wins” in order to move on and get ready to go win again, it’s almost more important to flush the losses.
Need to have short-term memory loss.
Yes, learn from the mistakes. But also, just f***ing forget them and carry on.
You know who I’ve never seen do a better job of this in all my 28 years as a human?
My 1-year-old baby niece, Camille.

We got some dinner together last week while her mommy and daddy had an event.
Funcle Danny, ENGAGE!

We caught up on life.
Apparently, her friend at music class is being a complete diva and all pissed cause her parents pushed up her bedtime last week to 6:45pm from 7:00pm to adjust for their own personal schedules.
Honestly, I’d be pissed too.
I was observing this absurdly cute baby at dinner that night as she had Cheez-its pouring out of her mouth nonstop, even though I took her to a really nice seafood place on the water but whatever, and I learned a ton.
The way she so quickly moves on from negative things that continued to happen that night and it was just outstanding.
Maybe there is a quick cry as Cheez-it descends from her mouth to the floor, BUT as soon as she sees another object like a Crayon, it’s game over.
She chooses to completely forget about the fallen Cheez-it, cut her losses and now invests her time and energy in that Crayon.
When the Crayon snaps or underperforms or gets thrown 30 feet across the very nice dining room, she moves on to the water glass that she wants to dip her fingers in.
The skill and unique, innate ability to move on so quickly that baby Camille possesses cannot often be taught, but you can at least try!
Let’s reverse last week’s real-life examples:
Lost a major sales deal at work? Sucks, a lot. But tomorrow go hunting for a bigger and better deal that is more of a fit. It’s about at-bats. Keep swinging.
Just recorded the worst podcast episode of your life and couldn’t put a single sentence together? Use it as fuel to be better next week in the studio.
Shot in the triple digits out on the golf course for the first time in 4 years? Shake it off, it’s a mental game. Go hit the range and work on the mistakes. (or sell your clubs and never make a tee time again and save yourself thousands of dollars).
We can all learn from Camille.
If you fail, fail fast.
AND MOVE ON!
And if you’re Scottie Scheffler and addicted to winning, just make sure you also move on quickly to get ready to win again.
Camille and Scottie, what a dangerous duo.
