Best Podcast Prank Ever?
You gotta weather the storm...
I was stuck on the (remote??) island of Nantucket this past weekend due to some nasty weather.
Very, very traumatic environment to be stranded in, I know. I appreciate your concerns. I wasn’t having any fun at all during the Nor’easter…

Safari-themed end-of-the season party at the best bar on the planet.
The worst part is that we record The Quick Snap Podcast on Tuesday mornings. Every flight and ferry off the island was canceled on Sunday and Monday.
I was convinced I wasn’t going to make it to the NBC Boston studios in time to record our show.
It was a massive week for the pod as the Patriots won their 3rd straight game, moved to 4-2 and took over first place in the AFC East passing the Buffalo Bills.
I was devastated to be missing the show.
Meanwhile, my co-hosts David Andrews and Brian Hoyer were absolutely ecstatic at the opportunity for my “f*ck-up” to completely roast me on the podcast during the intro.

They have been waiting for this moment their entire podcasting lives.
Little did they know, I had a trick up my sleeve. I had to weather the storm.
After missing a standby flight late Monday night at the Nantucket airport and getting an alert that my 6:00am Steamship Ferry was canceled, all hope was lost when my head hit the pillow to sleep.
The guys were going to dunk on me, and I was going to have to just eat it.
BUT…
By the grace of our lord and savoir Drake Maye, I had drunkenly bought back-up, last-ditch-effort tickets to the 7:40am Hy-line Ferry (the only other ferry service on island) on Tuesday AM.

The Brewery scene
Well, I woke up early on that cold, windy, rainy October morning and somehow the Hy-line Ferry was running. And thank god I bought a ticket because it was completely sold out. The next boat out was 8pm that night.
I was giddy boarding the ferry despite the life-threatening seas the captain was about to conquer.
I kept my sly move quiet in The Quick Snap group chat.
But then Brian Hoyer rang my phone right at 730a. “Are you on the ferry?”
“Why yes, I am, Brian. BUT DO NOT TELL DAVID”.
Got to my car on the Cape and went full Ricky Bobby to the NBC Boston Studios.

I got to NBC an hour early and snuck in the back, hiding in the control room.
David finally shows up in classic form holding his homemade lunch that his wife cooked for him.
The control room obviously has live feeds of the actual recording studio with hot mics. So, I of course, heard David trying to pull off a prank against me as you can see here:

I am dying laughing knowing I was going to absolutely ruin his plan as I had Brian and the entire NBC staff in on the prank.
What David attempted to do was do the intro to the podcast, tell the audience I was fired for missing the show, and replace me with Phil Perry who is a very loved and respected Patriots reporter.
So, I let it play out.
They start the show, and Phil takes my producer chair.
David starts the show off by saying “the Patriots success comes from teamwork” and making tough decisions when needed to be made. “So, we made the tough decision to fire Danny for missing the show and replaced him with Phil Perry.”
He is so, so happy and smiley giving this rant.
Phil responds pretending to play along with the bit.
Then the bomb drops.
BANG! In comes Producer Danny (me). He (me) WWE style slams him out of the room. I jump in the frame and David sees me for the first time.
He is in complete shock. His first words were, ”is that AI?!”.

David just flabbergasted I am in this frame
Here’s the shorter sequence social edit of the reaction and plot twist:
Here’s the full 7-minute cut of me turning David’s prank right around to him.
I just knew how fricken happy David would be for me to not be there. So, I knew I needed to make it to that studio and somehow f*ck with him.
And boy, did it work. It was beautifully executed too.
What’s the really annoying cliché Danny’s Diary message here?
I got one… You can always weather the storm.
David’s immediate reaction after leaving the studio:
I was betrayed by my "friends" on the @quicksnappod. I was flustered the whole show. Today is a sad day for the podcast
