Cocky vs Confident

If you open this email I will be very thankful...

Tomorrow is one of the greatest holidays in America.

It’s a day we get three really damn good NFL games, while we eat a sh*t ton of food.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving!! Unplug, open a beer, bite a turkey leg and talk some politics with your family members at the dinner table.

Here’s a short list of things I am thankful for in 2026 in order:

  1. Drake Maye

  2. My mother & father

  3. Drake “Drake Maye” Maye

  4. Mike Vrabel

  5. Everyone who reads this newsletter

  6. Drake Maye

I’m not here today to tell you to be thankful for a bunch of things. You should, and then probably do a deep thinking exercise around it, but it’s not why I am here.

I am here because Mr. Matthew McConaughey spoke to me.

I watched Dazed and Confused and realized everything is gonna be “all right, all right, all right.”

JK, but that is one of my all-time favorite movies and need to rewatch it soon.

But Matthew was a guest on Theo Von’s podcast recently and was exactly the conversation you’d expect…

Hilarious, wacky, but extremely deep.

There was one concept that stood out to me.

In order to be successful, an individual must have a great balance of confidence and humility.

You need the confidence to accomplish what you want.

But the moment you become “cocky”, you’re done.

And that’s where humility comes in.

Understand your abilities.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help, lean on your teammates.

You need to toe that line between confidence and cocky.

Do NOT become cocky.

But the best in the biz (whatever industry you may be in) have a certain confidence about them. A certain swagger.

But the very, very best use that hint of humility and radiate their swagger throughout a team to go win together.

They rely on what they’re confident and good at, as a unit.

Now use that confidence and go eat 7 pounds of turkey. You CAN DO IT. And you WILL DO IT.

Happy Thanksgiving and love you all.

BTW the 29th mid-life crisis party down in Florida this past weekend was nothing short of perfect - I even had the right balance of confidence and humility to drive this boat and to not crash it!
