Football is over...
What do we do now?
Football is over…
The three worst words in sports. Stealing a phrase from last week’s newsletter but those aren’t just the three worst words in sports, but in all of the English language.
Sunday night the NFL season ended with the Eagles absolutely dominating, actually flat-out embarrassing the Chiefs in the Super Bowl (THANK GOD).
Here’s my Super Bowl recap in three bullets:
Nobody in America wanted to see this matchup, and the game was horrible - perfectly living up to those expectations
The GOAT debate, that never should have been a debate in the first place, between Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes is officially OVER. Sure, Mahomes could win 4 more Lombardis to match Tom (doubt it), but he’s gotten blown out in two Super Bowls and one of them was by Tom Brady. Also, TB12 was fantastic on Sunday’s broadcast keeping a boring game decently interesting. Plus, huge shoutout to his FOX Spotter Thomas Casale, dude is an absolute savage grinder
Happy for Saquon Barkley, especially after the Giants dumped him and his daughter wrote this cute note before the SB. Super unhappy for the miserable fans of Philadelphia (but congrats!)

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But now football is over… What do we do?
I’m just as sad as Kelce is in that picture.
I guess there are other sports on this Earth that we are allowed to enjoy.
Let’s go through them and see when the proper time is to invest your time into those events as the 2025 calendar starts to evolve…
College Basketball
March Madness tips-off in about 4 weeks. This is my second favorite sporting event to dive into. I listened to maybe 150 hours of March Madness preview podcasts last season, and I loved every second of it. Didn’t pay off.
So, get excited for that. Take these next 4 weeks and watch a little bit of college ball but not a ton because your mid-March will be completely dedicated to it. Don’t want you to overdo it too soon.

Side note - my sister who picked the schools based on jersey color and if they had a good football team that didn’t listen to a single minute of preview podcasts last year was ranked top 100 on ESPN out of 26,000,000 brackets. Made me super angry honestly.
NBA
If you’re lucky like me and have a contender in the NBA to root for like the Celtics, April isn’t too bad either.
The Celtics postseason run last year, living a 10-minute walk from the TD Garden was one of my most thrilling times as a Boston sports fan.

If you’re one of those guys that just hates the NBA and doesn’t care at all, I don’t agree with you, but I can understand where you are coming from, especially if your hometown team stinks.
The NBA regular season is almost an unwatchable product.
Personally, I will be balls to the wall again when the Celtics gear up for their defense of the title.
NHL
Can’t say I am a big puck guy, and I think most of America would tend to agree with me.
BUT I am a Bruins fan. Die-hard would definitely be lying but I strongly follow the team. Been to a Stanley Cup Final game before and don’t think I was ever a part of a more electric fan atmosphere in my entire life.
Early April is another good target for hockey fans to completely dial in. Their playoff season matches the NBA timeline.
My new favorite sports newsletter
Another smart thing you could do is also subscribe to brand new sports newsletter that I’ve been loving. It’s like the Morning Blitz newsletter that I used to write, but 10x better…
Enter Press Sports: a one-stop shop for weekly sports news, straight to your email. We scour 100s of sources, then distill the top stories to give you a newsletter jampacked with the good stuff sent 2x per week – thoughtfully written sports news you actually care about.
All in 5 minutes or less. And, it’s free.
Ok, back to sports you can watch that are not football…
Golf
Yeah, we’ve already run out of sports that we are now talking about a sport that is more popular on YouTube than live TV. That being said, I am a golf junkie and watch a lot of tournaments.
April is busy, you can find the first and most important major of the year when The Masters tees off in Augusta.
Masters Sunday isn’t Super Bowl Sunday, but it may be the closest thing we have during the offseason.
Then golf starts to lead us into the dreaded dog days of the Summer. There is typically a major every 4 weeks in the summer which is fun for the casual fan to follow.
But creeping into the June time period when NBA and NHL Finals have concluded is when things get really scary for sports fans…
So, as sports fans, what are our options?
MLB – Sure. I mean you’re looking at Red Sox die-hard season ticket holder (10-game package split with 3 friends, not a math guy but that’s like 3 games a year. Still a season ticket holder!). I do follow baseball but watching a game on TV in the summer just is a rare occurrence.
PLL – I assume no one reading this gives a crap (you see that Grandpa? I took out the swear word there!) but Premier Lacrosse League can be decent to watch. As a former lax guy (ROLL GATE!) I tune in here and there. Good product.
Tennis – Not my thing but Wimbledon is fun. U.S. Open is cool if you live in NYC and can weasel tickets from your corporate job.
Literally can’t think of anything else. Trying to remember what we filled the summer months with when I used to write Morning Blitz…
Is Pickleball on TV yet?
UFC events are on all year long and the big PPV events are very entertaining. Shoutout Dana White, I love you. (re-linking my interview with The Boss here).
Not a huge Formula 1 guy at all but I guess that’s on Sunday mornings.
Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4th is cool.
Then we get into August… does watching NFL training camp videos on social media count? The fantasy football prep that month is also fun.
Then September all glory returns to our worlds. The NFL and College Football kick-off once again and we continue to have real excuses to tell our girlfriends and loved ones why we can’t spend as much time with them anymore.
Using NBA, NHL, Golf or Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest just never works well.
But football, there is no answer for that one. Your number 1 priority is watching that game, and no one can take that away from you.
It’s such a beautiful thing we have to hold onto.
So, hang in there sports fans. There’s some cool stuff coming down the pipeline in sports over the next few months. And some not so cool stuff.
But sit tight, because the countdown of when football kicks off again has just begun, and it’s only going down from here!
