The New York Knicks.
Man, what can I say! Good basketball team.
The players are super likeable. Underdog mentality. They play really fricken hard.
They are extremely likeable.
But what is it about them that I really do not like???
Can’t seem to put my finger on it…
Then I take a step back and look at things from “10,000 feet” as they say.
“NEW YORK” Knicks.
Ahhh that’s it!
I absolutely despise New York sports fans.
I’m friends with a million of them. And as a Boston sports fan, I know I am probably worse than all of them combined (besides the violent ones outside MSG).
But that’s just how it goes.
Boston hates New York. New York hates Boston. The Yankees suck. And so do the Knicks. Go Pats.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, will ever change my thinking on this matter.
My favorite players from Boston could all go to New York at once.
And I would hate them.
And if the New York players came to Boston, I would love them. Die for them.
That’s the nature of the beast.
I actually watched Game 4 when they came back from down 29 points at MSG to win at a bar in NYC with a few hundred Knicks fans.
Watching that lead slowly just get smaller and smaller was a crazy feeling for a guy yelling “Go Spurs” the entire night that has never once been to San Antonio.
I was in pain.
On my lonely walk back to the hotel, I watched the streets turn into an absolute zoo.
Ran into comedian Andrew Schulz while I was on Facetime with my GF so she could protect me from all the crazy New Yorkers. Did I give him a celebratory dap?? No, no absolutely not… 👀👀
Good screenshot by her
I’ve been in the position of victory a lot of times actually because Boston is the city of champions and we win A LOT! (See, aren’t I a super likable sports fan?)
But I guess my “lesson” here is, it’s okay to be stubborn and just accept some things will never change.
It doesn’t just have to happen in sports.
But just know a family member, a co-worker, a dog, sometimes may never change. And they never will.
Sometimes that dog is always just going to bark no matter how many times you tell it to shut it. Or sh*t in the house.
That sister is always just going to be super annoying.
That co-worker might always be a stiff.
You just gotta ride with it.
Hate ‘em or love ‘em, that’s just how it goes.
So, congrats to the PLAYERS of the New York Knicks.
To the fans, go f*** yourselves! Have fun repeating! My Celtics are coming for blood.
I will hate you forever.
