The Brutal (and fun) Side of Sports

No better example of that can what happened...

In partnership with

I’m about to talk about some crappy parts about sports but before that… HAPPY MARCH MADNESS.

Here is my official hand-written bracket:

It’s simply the best time of year. I’m also playing golf Saturday. How beautiful is that?!

Ok, let’s get into it.

One Big (Sports) Thing

Pro sports are a business.

Everyone always says it, but no better example of that than what happened to my guy David Andrews last week.

DA played 9 seasons for the Patriots, was undrafted in 2015, won two Super Bowls, 8-time team captain and just the heart and soul of this current Patriots team. Most tenured pro athlete in Boston outside of Bruins’ David Pastrnak.

Beloved by Bostonians.

Pats Super Bowl Parade 2017 - Lots to Love

Mike Vrabel, new head coach of the New England Patriots, made the tough decision to cut David.

David only played 4 games last year with a shoulder injury and is 32 years old. But still, he’s THE locker guy you want leading this young team.

Regardless, Mike decided to release the future Patriot Hall of Famer.

No emotions from Vrabel in this decision, it’s a business.

I hated when DA told us the news.

For those that don’t know, David Andrews and I started a podcast together this past football season, along with former Pats QB Brian Hoyer.

DA loves to s*** on me but he actually said some decently nice things in our season finale episode. AWWWWWWW.

I got to know DA very well this past year. Absolute pleasure to call David Andrews my teammate and strap it up with him on The Quick Snap Podcast. (Dropping an emergency podcast on our YouTube channel later today with his first public statement on the news).

Thank you for your service to the New England Patriots over the last decade. You’re a true Patriot. Cheers to the next chapter.

Hope that next chapter includes taking The Quick Snap to the goddamn moon.

This Sunday we are doing a live event at Gillette Stadium for Season Ticket holders.

Current players and coaches will be coming through our set all day.

Part of the day will be an on-the-field catching challenge with Hoyer. I will run 10 routes and see how many I can catch. He will be trying to break my fingers.

We ran a test a month ago on a snowy, icy field with 40 mph wind gusts, and I blew out both my hamstrings. FUN!

Yeah, that’s me in the gear

Do I look legit?

Jokes aside, was a dream to catch a pass from an NFL QB, just wish he could’ve put on my numbers and not overthrow me half the time 😏

Here’s the full video that dropped this AM highlighting the day (fun side of sports):

Content from this Sunday at Gillette to follow.

But the point of this Diary post is just the fact that this is the closest I’ve been to a player in my years of sports media, and I truly see how ruthless of business pro sports can be.

And I wanted to remind everyone of that.

DA - if you figured out how to open your email and read this, love you.

Favorite Thing I Saw on Social This Week

YouTube golf is just exploding, and SHAME on Rory McIlroy for saying it’s not important (but props for winning the tournament)

Here’s a clip of Fat Perez (yes, they call him Fat Perez) drilling a Tiger like putt on No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass at The Creator Classic:

I am not posting this because the putt was cool, but because YouTube golf in general is becoming MASSIVE and I’m glad Pat McAfee is giving it the love it deserves.

I watch a lot of YouTube golf, and it’s absolutely growing the game and it’s fun to see.

My Dad (Durty) wanted me to let you all know he beat my ass in a season long Pick ‘Em pool this NFL. Hand up, he definitely did. Haven’t seen a more successful parlay bettor than this guy.

Do you want to add Durty’s picks to this Betting Corner?

His baby grand daughter hates his picks 🤣
