Probably the most beautiful word in all of sports.
Why?
Because it’s all-encompassing.
When I wrote about “hope” last week, I could’ve easily just replaced that word with “March”.
There is nothing more hopeful than entering March Madness.
Whether you are a projected lottery pick in the NBA Draft playing for Duke, a superfan student rooting for the #13 seeded Troy Trojans to upset #4 seeded Nebraska (yes, I think this will happen and picked it), or my girlfriend who thought Michigan Street was playing North Dakota Street in round 1 and picked North Dakota based off their color scheme.
It’s “State”, honey. These are colleges, we’re not using Google Maps to drive to the nearest Whole Foods.
My point is, March Madness is for everyone.
It gives everyone a chance. It’s “The Big Dance” for crying out loud.
The Cinderella story is bound to happen. It delivers every single year no matter what.
You know who the Cinderella story could be this year??
YOU.
Just believe it and you never know.
You were lucky enough to be entered in this “dance” we call life. You punched your ticket, now go take advantage.
Maybe you’re a 16 seed with sh*t luck. But everyone remembers what #16 seeded UMBC did to #1 overall seed UVA a few years back… the unthinkable upset.
Maybe you’re that #1 overall seed. You will have a target on your back. That should motivate you to maintain that position. Now go win it.
Anything can happen in March (life).
It’s a time to really dig in, embrace the madness, and play your game. Be who you are, that’s how you’ve made it this far.
No, but seriously I think the Cinderella is Troy or Hofstra.
Round 1 of March Madness is the greatest two days on the sports calendar.
4 games on the TV at once. Madness. Busted brackets. Underdog storylines.
Just really enjoy this everyone. Have some hope it’ll be your year.
Will my 87 hours of college basketball podcasts and research pay off over the next few weeks as I win my bracket groups? Who knows, we will find out, but I am HOPEFUL it will.
