My Favorite Social Platforms

It can be scary place...

In partnership with

I am a fan of social media, but a lot of people hate it.

These haters, which you very much are probably a part of, would probably say it creates a toxic environment and a lot of “fake” people trying to be something they aren’t.

Hey, I’m not writing this blog to say those scenarios don’t exist.

I mean the fact that Hawk Tuah has 2.6 million IG followers and a YouTube podcast with 106K subscribers and 1.7M views on her first episode… INSANE and quite annoying.

15 seconds of fame is maybe lasting???

If you don’t know who Hawk Tuah is, it’s hard to explain but here’s her viral video.

Honestly, good for you, Hawk. Good for you.

Ok, today’s little Diary post was not supposed to be a Hawk Tuah rant.

It’s going to be about why I love social media, rank my favorite platforms and give their pros and cons. Let’s ride.

Why I Enjoy Social Media

I’m kinda in a bullet point mood. I’m writing this as I watch the Dolphins/Titans rock fight on Monday Night Football, so I blame the lack of offense for my inability to be creative rn.

Top reasons I am PRO social media

  • I love the access it provides to people whether that be people you look up to, athletes you root for, someone you hate but like to see what they’re up to or whatever reason you can think of. But ACCESS is the biggest difference maker for me - FYI I help athletes and other sports stars create social content for a living at Shadow Lion

  • Interesting opportunity to connect with people you would never ever, ever come across in real life

  • Great platforms to push ideas, initiatives, projects, etc. that you are passionate about

  • Easy to stay informed - when I say informed, I mean on the hottest sports takes, not politics, of course

  • Personally, I think it’s super fun to create content and put it out there in the wild

1. Instagram

IG is by far my favorite social app to sit down on the couch, pop open, scroll and waste 15 minute of my life.

It’s a great mix between serious and goofy content. Sports and news. Friends and famous.

I love IG Stories as a nice way for people to easily share updates and more behind the scenes content. Less scary place to throw up a picture or a video than a Feed post.

I think its biggest downfall is the explore page pumping you content you just do not care about. This is ultimately TikToks fault though. The dancing trend videos. Scroll for my take on that horrific app.

Personally, I like to fire off content mainly on my IG Story but throw in the occasional feed post like this wedding szn recap I just launched:

Or me catching toss the pigskin with Pat McAfee:

Am I trying to grow my own audience and become an influencer? NO

Do I have fun just launching content to put stuff out there? YES

2. YouTube

When there’s no interesting sports on TV, and nothing good on live television, this is where I go for long-form content.

I watch way too much YouTube Golf. I throw in the occasional podcasts and vlogs (just Tom Brady’s channel of course). But YT Golf is on rewind on my TV.

It’s a great platform for getting to know people and build a genuine connection with. You can learn a whole lot about them in long-form video like this.

As a creator, it’s the hardest platform to maintain. Short-form content is a lot easier to produce and amass a large following in a short period of time.

YouTube creation for a normal person is completely irrelevant. It’s only a place to consume content. You’re not posting YouTube videos like a normal person would post an Instagram or Tweet.

It even has short-form content with YouTube Shorts if that’s what you’re looking for and have zero attention span, which seems like the entire Gen Z population.

3. X (Twitter)

This is the perfect platform for launching a thought that comes to your brain and not thinking twice about. It’s fun, it’s harmless and engaging.

I FIRE off NFL hot takes and betting locks during Sunday Football.

I deserve more credit for more gambling abilities.

You can also have direct conversations with people on topics you care about.

Or you can be a ghost and just stroll and consume content. Again, everyone reading this is probably like that.

Or you can be like Kevin Durant, create a burner account and just be a troll in the comments. Very fun approach as well.

It’s my favorite platform to get real-world news and updates.

If something crazy just happened in the world, it’s the best app to pop open and see the chatter around the event.

Example Trump assignation attempt - I was on the move traveling so you can’t just turn on the TV and get caught up, I opened the X app and BOOM I got most of the info I am looking for.

I will say the For Your Page on X does shove political videos in your face and can be very annoying.

4. TikTok

This app in trash. I hate the content. The dance trends are annoying. People have large followings that shouldn’t. The “For You Page” does a poor job at actually pushing content you care about.

The interface might be my least favorite part. Every time you open up the app it forces a full screen ad in your face.

Like get outta here!

Then when someone texts me a link to watch a TikTok post, mainly my TikTok loving girlfriend, the app takes forever to load the videos and asks you if you want to follow the account of the link sent first before watching.

I know this feels like an old man take, but this app is simply terrible. I have nothing positive to say.

That’s all she wrote, folks! Another busy, busy week and wanted to give my quick thoughts on the current social media landscape and my favorite platforms to consume and produce content on.
