Play Like a Champion, Today

Best day of my life? Yep.

In partnership with

One Big (Championship Level) Thing

Have you ever gotten to experience playing “We Are The Champions”, Queen’s masterpiece, on the aux after a championship win??

If not, I feel really really horrible for you cause it’s a beautiful thing (looking at you younger Knicks, Mets and Jets fans 😂).

I got to experience this magical harmony again on Sunday afternoon when my Colgate Raiders won the Patriot League championship in lacrosse.

The fellas beat BU 17-10 in the Pat League Championship after knocking out Army, the #4 ranked team in the country, on their home turf at West Point in the semifinals. And BU was the only other team to beat Army all year, so it was a tough road for my Raiders!

You might say, “Hey Danny, you’re a washed-up 28-year-old who graduated from Colgate 6 years ago and you’re a complete bum now that blew out your back in a pickup basketball game and now get weekly treatment just to be able to walk normally. Relax and chill out, Heals, you’re not even on the team.”

Fair, but I will respectfully disagree with your opinion.

I am a champion, TODAY!

I also apologize to the folks I had Zoom calls with on Monday for my voice being non-existent. For me, it was well worth it. I think my yelling contributed to about 2.5 goals.

I also HEAVILY disagree with the people who say the six Patriots Super Bowls, two NBA championships (one more coming in a month), four Sox World Series, and Bruins’ Cup win in 2011 that I’ve been alive for aren’t my championships because “I wasn’t on the team.”

You’re wrong. I am a champion, and I am a part of all 13 of those victories. I think the players would agree.

If I were famous enough to have a Wikipedia, it would properly have all of these championships listed on my profile.

Did I receive a 2025 championship Pat League Champs t-shirt? No, even though I asked Coach Karweck for one.

Side note: Yes, I am proud to admit I am a LAX bro.

This video is almost a direct replica of my life.

Honestly, this is one of the greatest videos to ever bless the internet and was a staple for my childhood. Brantford Winstonworth is a goddamn legend. The second video is even better.

But back to the “champion talk”…

As an alumnus of a program that went on a 10-year drought without winning a single playoff game then won the conference this year in dominating fashion, I am very proud.

It takes a lot of sacrifice to go and be great.

It takes guts, and these boys played with some f***ing guts. Balls to the damn wall for 60 minutes.

Trust the process.

Clearly not working for the Philadelphia 76ers but in most situations this will play, not even just sports.

The head coach, Matt Karweck, had his first season at Colgate my senior year. So special connection there.

He’s an incredible person, a players’ coach. Someone you want to go ball out for.

While we beat top 10 ranked Syracuse in the Carrier Dome in his first-ever game (yes, I peaked in college), Gate struggled for a few seasons from that start to now. Some people, older alums weren’t too pumped with the progress of the program.

But getting your own recruits and building a culture takes time.

Seven years later, Karweck and HIS squad are champions.

Put in the work and trust the process, people.

And maybe one day you’ll get to blast that Queen masterpiece with your buddies in a college campus parking lot while drinking too many Bud Lights.

Favorite Thing(s) I Saw on the Internet This Week

Anthony Edwards is a DAWG.

The young star has been coming at the Warriors this past week in the media as the T-Wolves get ready to take on the Warriors in Round 2.

Waariors HC Steve Kerr back in 2020 said he was never going to draft him if he had the #1 pick overall and Ant took that to heart.

Two years ago, he said he wanted to play the Warriors in the playoffs cause Draymond Green talks so much trash.

Now he has a chance to prove Kerr wrong and put Draymond in his place this series and get the revenge he’d hope for.

Then this recent back and forth chirping on the court between Ant and Draymond is what basketball needs.

I love Ant Edwards. DAWG. They lost Game 1 last night but just the fire he needed.

This isn’t a “homer” pick. Did I pick Gate to win? No, it’s a play knowing these are two fast-paced offensive systems and the Gate boys will be rolling into Happy Valley unafraid to let it fly.
