Everyone’s been in the shoes of an inspired young whippersnapper that’s ready to go take on the world.

Although, most of the time you are a little too green.

You need more time and experience to accomplish what is on your mind.

I know cause I’ve been there.

Starting Morning Blitz in college and trying to partner up with TorchPro was a 5-year journey of craziness. But the number of lessons I got from that alone was essentially like graduating from business school.

It set me up for success in the next step with Shadow Lion.

Without that idea of “failure” and what it looks like, I wouldn’t be as equipped to make the right moves today.

I am still learning A LOT from the team around me.

On my flight out to SF for the Super Bowl, I threw on F1: The Movie. God, Brad Pitt is frickin handsome and cool.

But if you haven’t seen the movie, the TLDR is that this really bad F1 team has a very talented rookie driver, but he lacks the maturity and experience it takes to be great. Clashing personality Brad “I’m so damn handsome” Pitt comes in as the vet driver to help groom the youngster.

Of course, lots of tension at first but it’s a Hollywood movie… they became great teammates in the end and the antsy, cocky rookie learned his lesson about patience, and it paid off for him in the long haul.

They went onto win a big race and become a top team in F1.

It’s not easy to be patient.

But when you’re surrounded by a team, role models or even family members that have been through similar experiences, the most valuable thing you can do is listen to them and learn.

Apply it to your journey in different ways.

I’ve written here about my father who had a very successful career in business. Built a manufacturing company from the ground up grinding for over 30 years.

He eventually sold the business to a publicly traded company. Then, became a full-time pirate (More of a Capt. Jack Sparrow than a Davy Jones).

But again, I took his wisdom and experience for granted.

Because I was in the “media” industry and he didn’t understand what a meme was, I thought he was “stupid”.

But really how stupid am I?

He’s given me the best advice and motivation for my career over the last 5 years. Just an incredible resource that I am excited to keep tapping into vs pushing away.

Business is business. Media is business. Dad is smart and wise. Danny is young and dumb.

I’m not saying don’t take opportunities when they present themselves.

I’m also not saying that “old age” automatically means experience.

You can be 76 years old starting a new challenge. Just because you’ve been around the sun a bunch doesn’t mean you’ll be successful in that next endeavor. You also need experience.

In the F1 movie they used the phrase, “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast”.

Everyone wants to rush to get somewhere. Rush to get something done.

Take it slow, take in the knowledge, and keep it going. No shortcuts in this crazy game of life.
