A Monkey's POV šŸ’

Life from the Costa Rican jungle...

One Big (Simple) Thing

Never been to Costa Rica? Do it.

What was my favorite part? Hanging with monkeys.

These fellas (and maybe ladies) were directly off my balcony and we became besties

These guys get second place

What was I doing running around the Costa Rican jungle with a bunch of beautiful monkeys?

My day 1 OG brethren Zach Coffey made President’s Club for his tech sales job at Klaviyo. President’s Club goes to the top percentile of sales folks at the company and are given a cool company retreat on the company’s dime as a reward (shoutout Zach for being a sales savage). I happily took over plus one duties when his GF couldn’t make it, sorry Liv!

Why are we holding hands???

Huge shoutout to the folks over at Klaviyo.

It was a special trip, and I could tell why each person there earned a spot on the trip. Kind, welcoming and fun to be around! So, sure here’s my money, I’ll take some Klaviyo.

It feels like a very close-knit team that embodies the work-hard, party-hard mentality that is needed to go build something special.

The leadership present in Costa made it clear that success at Klaviyo doesn’t happen unless everyone works together.

Diary lesson 1 of the day: Work as a team or it won’t work at all.

Ok, back to the more exciting part of this Diary.

Monkeys.

This little monkey was my favorite.

Just swinging upside-down all-around town

This monkey was an all-time chiller, quite stunning, and an easy chat!

Not joking, I was making monkey noises that likely woke up the entire W Hotel property way too early in the morning and was getting direct responses back from the monkey gang.

I am one with the monks. Although, I’d like to think of myself as more of a gorilla type.

Ok, but what’s the general lesson here you ask? Isn’t this Diary supposed to add some type of valuable lesson and not just be a love confession for a monkey?

Here ya go. Sitting up on our hotel balcony watching these mystical creatures swing tree to tree, I realized how they treat life with a very simple mindset…

They go after what’s in front of them. They take what they get.

See tree, climb tree. Long sturdy branch, grab branch. Green leaf, eat leaf, yummy leaf.

They don’t make things complicated.

So, if a monkey is keeping simple, I think we can too.

If life hands you something like a beautiful monkey friend, go embrace it.

Diary lesson 2 of the day: Go with the flow (and buy a pet monkey).

Very much a play off last week’s ā€œBe As You Areā€ post, but writing about that then getting to Costa Rica and seeing the monkey IRL also live up to that message further solidified its truth.

Go with the flow and Be As You Are.

Costa was a nice reset. Thanks, Zach.

Throwing it back to my Diary, ā€œA Change of Sceneryā€, and how a trip or an adjustment in a daily routine can help you see things from an entirely different perspective and open up the mind for creativity.

Funny enough Tom Brady wrote about his golf trip to Ireland last week in his weekly newsletter, that us at Shadow Lion help manage, and he talked exactly about the significant impact of a change of scenery. He also talked about how you don’t need to jump on a plane to experience this but changing things in your daily routine will help you with the change in perspective as well.

Fantastic read, not just this specific newsletter from Tom, but his newsletter ā€œ199ā€ in general.

Where should I head next? I’m thinking Phoenix.

Best golf in the U.S. out there from what I’ve heard. And I’ve got the golf bug bad. A sickness I can’t shake. And Phoenix feels like the perfect medicine to cure that.

I’d love to take a page out of Tom’s book and grab a flight to Ireland with my sticks, but we’ll start slow and stay within the U.S. national borders for now.

I wrote this on my flight from Costa Rica to Las Vegas. So, the Kenny Chesney recap is going to have to wait until next week.

But until then, here’s a sneak peek of one of my favorite visuals from the night:

And a 4-minute underwater intro into him coming on stage and rocking.

No Shoes Nation took over The Sphere.

Diary lesson 3 of the day: Go to The Sphere.

Until next week, folks! The TLDR read here:

  1. Teamwork makes the dreamwork

  2. I love Monkeys, LOVE

  3. Book a Phoenix trip ASAP
